REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION
Group Name: comp.sys.embedded
Status: unmoderated
Distribution: world-wide
Summary: Discussions related to embedded systems
Proposed by: Tim Tsai (tsait@iia.org)
This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) on the subject of
creating an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.embedded.
CHARTER
The proposed unmoderated newsgroup comp.sys.embedded will be
opened to discussions on topics related to embedded systems,
including programming techniques, tools, and hardware systems.
Topics not specific to embedded systems should be directed to
the appropriate group. For example, "how to write an
interrupt-driven serial routine for MS-DOS" should probably be
posted to comp.os.msdos.programmer instead, even if an embedded
system is involved. "how to execute an interrupt-driven serial
routine from ROM in MS-DOS" would be an appropriate topic for
this group. Note that MS-DOS is only used as an example here.
This RFD is cross-posted to comp.os.msdos.programmer,
comp.realtime, and sci.electronics, where I have noted
discussions on embedded systems in the past.
This is NOT a call for votes. A Call For Votes (CFV) will be
posted 21 to 30 days from now and will be conducted by an
independent third party.
Note the follow-up to news.groups. The format for this RFD is
directly stolen from the RFD for comp.org.uniforum and I thank
the original author.

CHARTER
The proposed unmoderated newsgroup comp.arch.embedded will be
opened to discussions on topics related to embedded systems,
including embedded programming techniques, tools, hardware
systems, and embedded peripherals such as displays and data
entry equipment. An embedded system can be described as any
application where a dedicated computer is built right into the
system but the end product is not a computer. For example, the
computer system that's built into a typical cable TV box is
considered an embedded system.
Topics not specific to embedded systems should be directed to
the appropriate group. Only topics that involve an embedded
system that can not be better answered elsewhere should be
posted here.

unmoderated group comp.arch.embedded passes 226:18
There were 226 YES votes and 18 NO votes, for a total of 244 valid votes.
There were 3 abstains and 2 invalid ballots.
For group passage, YES votes must be at least 2/3 of all valid (YES and NO)
votes. There also must be at least 100 more YES votes than NO votes.
There is a five day discussion period after these results are posted. If no
serious allegations of voting irregularities are raised, the moderator of
news.announce.newgroups will create the group shortly thereafter.
