REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group comp.graphics.apps.softimage
Description: SOFTIMAGE applications and products.
RATIONALE
With the Wavefront and Alias newsgroups in existence for some time, the
lack of a newsgroup for SOFTIMAGE applications is a curious hole in the
trio of high-end modeling/animation/rendering suites. Given the highly
complex nature of these beasts, learning how to effectively use (or in
some cases find!) the features of this package would be greatly aided
with a forum for animators to get together and discuss tips and
problems.
CHARTER
comp.graphics.apps.softimage is a forum for the discussion of SOFTIMAGE
applications -- these include, but are not limited to, Eddie, Creative
Environment, Toonz, and so on.
Discussion may include technical questions, tips, problems, product
queries and ordering information, and announcement of new products.
Questions concerning particular computing systems should be directed to
the appropriate comp.sys.* newsgroups. The posting of binaries is
discouraged; ftp sites are much preferred.
PPROPOSAL PROCESS
For those unfamiliar with the process of newsgroup proposal, this is the
first RFD (Request For Discussion) for this newsgroup. After the
proponents of this group achieve consensus on the name, location and
charter of this group, and when 21 days have passed from the date of
the first RFD, it may go on to CFV (Call For Votes), which will last
for another three weeks or so. The newsgroup will be created if there
are at least 100 more YES votes than NO votes and 2/3 of the votes are
YES.
At this stage in the process we're looking for flaws in the proposal
and are trying to get concensus about what the final ballot will be.
If you have any reservations at all, or any chages to suggest, now is
the time to voice your opinion.
Follow-ups to this article should go to news.groups, and email should
go to hollasch@acm.org.

HOW TO VOTE
Send MAIL to: voting@ntrs.com
Just replying should work if you are not reading this on a mailing list.
It would be apprciated by the votetaker if you did NOT forward the entire
CFV back; this mail is archived and I really don't need several hundred
copies of the CFV on my system.
Your mail message should contain one of the following statements:
I vote YES on comp.graphics.apps.softimage
I vote NO on comp.graphics.apps.softimage
You may also ABSTAIN in place of YES/NO - this will not affect the outcome.
Anything else may be rejected by the automatic vote counting program. The
votetaker will respond to your received ballots with a personal acknowledge-
ment by mail - if you do not receive one within several days, try again.
It is your responsibility to make sure your vote is registered correctly.
Only one vote per person, no more than one vote per account. Addresses and
votes of all voters will be published in the final voting results list.
