FIRST REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
This is a formal Request for Discussion for the creation of a new
newsgroup under the comp.* hierarchy. This RFD is being cross posted
to comp.misc, comp.os.misc, comp.os.research, comp.os.mach,
comp.realtime, comp.unix.misc and news.announce.newgroups.
Discussion of this RFD is to take place in news.groups.
NAME: comp.os.chorus
STATUS: Unmoderated
One line description for the List of Active Newsgroups:
comp.os.chorus - Forum for the discussion of all issues related to the
CHORUS microkernel OS technology, its OS components, the OSs based upon
it (e.g., CHORUS/MiX, CHORUS/Fusion, CHORUS/COOL) and related research
and development projects.
RATIONALE:
As newsgroups related to microkernels or specific operating systems
areas already exist and periodic questions are raised concerning the
CHORUS technology due to an increasing use of the system in academia
and industry, the need for a group dedicated specifically to this
system and its applications is evident. The proposed newsgroup is
intended to provide an international forum for all issues concerning
the CHORUS technology.
The proposed name comp.os.chorus is specific enough to welcome any
discussions on the CHORUS technology. More specific newsgroups related
to the products developed using the CHORUS technology may be created
later to gather more specific information together.
PROPOSED CHARTER:
comp.os.chorus is a forum for the discussion of issues related to the
CHORUS OS technology.
TOPICS OF DISCUSSION
Discussion on all aspects of CFD are welcome, including, but not
limited to:
* Distributed Operating Systems
* Microkernels
* Real-Time Systems
* UNIX
* Multiple System Personalities
* Object-Oriented Platforms
* Virtual Memory Management
* Multi-threading
* IPC protocols
* Fault-Tolerant and Highly Available Systems
PROCESS
The normal group creation guidelines are being followed. This is the
first draft of this proposal. A Call for Votes is expected in 25 days.
