REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
=============================
Newsgroup : comp.os.magic-cap
Status : unmoderated
Distribution : world-wide
Summary : Discussion of the Magic Cap operating system
Proposers : jet@genmagic.com
This is a formal Request For Discussion on the creation of the newsgroups
comp.os.magic-cap.
This RFD has been posted in accordance with the Guidelines for Newsgroup
Creation. Its language is based on previously submitted RFDs. The RFD is
being cross-posted to the following relevant news groups :
news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,comp.sys.handhelds,comp.sys.palmtops,comp.sys.pen
NOTE : Follow ups are defined to ensure that further discussion takes place in
news.groups only. Please watch this group if you are interested in the ensuing
discussion.
CHARTER
The comp.os.magic-cap newsgroup will be open to discussion of all
subjects (programming, user experiences, rants) related to the Magic
Cap operating system from General Magic. This would include the
topics:
* Generation/Posting/Support of a FAQ for Magic Cap.
* Discussion of Magic Cap third party hardware and software.
* Comparison between hardware platforms supporting the Magic Cap OS.
* Trading of tips for using Magic Cap on travel or in foreign countries.
RATIONALE
There are many systems available that can run the Magic Cap operating
system. Sony and Motorola are both selling Magic Cap based personal
communicators. General Magic has announced the Magic Cap for Windows
product that provide MS Windows users with a Magic Cap platform.
Matsushita and others have announced plans to use Magic Cap as a base
operating system for personal communicators. Many of the users and
developers (and potential users and developers) for these systems also
use the Internet as a means of communication and have been cobbling
together mailing lists and WWW servers. The comp.os.magic-cap
newsgroup would reach a much broader audience and provide a better
forum for discussion than the loose collection of resources.
PROCEDURE
Please post any response to this message to news.groups. If you use the
followup feature on your newsreader, this should happen automatically. It is
important to understand that all discussions about the merits of this proposal
should occur on news.groups only.
