This is a formal Request for Discussion on the creation of a new newsgroup
called "misc.invest.canada" (not moderated).
This announcement is cross-posted to newsgroups whose readers may have
interest in the discussion about the new group; follow-up discussion will
take place in "news.groups".

PURPOSE/CHARTER
The newsgroup 'misc.invest.canada' would be a forum for discussing
issues related to investment in Canada for people around the world who
are interested in financial markets in Canada. Topics could include,
but would not be limited to
- Canadian tax and investment laws, RRSP's etc.
- Canadian bonds and other financial instruments
- Canadian companies on Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Alberta,
stock exchanges.
- Business sectors more relevant to Canada - Resource, diamond, gold,
oil and gas, base metals etc.
- Canadian mutual funds
- Canadian business media
RATIONALE
Currently these issues are discussed in misc.invest, which is mostly
discussing investing in US. The heavy flood of articles on this
newsgroup discourages people who are interested exclusively in
Canadian financial issues to start a discussion. When few items
regarding Canadian companies are posted they are soon overwhelmed by
the news on US companies. This new newsgroup will exclusively discuss
Canadian topics resulting in more open and relevant discussions about
the growing Canadian financial market.
NEWSGROUP CREATION
The discussion period will be from May 10th, 1993 to June 7, 1993.
Please post all discussion in news.groups.
If a consensus is reached by the end of the discussion period,
a CFV (Call for Votes) will be posted at that time. The voting period
will last for 21 days.
