This is a call for discussion on creating a group for
the discussion of wine making.
Proposed Group:
---------------
Name: rec.crafts.winemaking
moderation status: unmoderated
Propose Charter:
----------------
Rec.crafts.winemaking will be a news group dedicated to the
discussion of the process, recipes, tips, techniques and
general exchange of lore on the process, methods and history
of wine making. This group is to be general enough to
encompass both traditional grape wines as well as wines
which are generally described as country wines, sparkling
wines, champagnes or other types of wines not included in
this list. Personal stories and experiences shall be
welcome as long as they pertain to the craft of wine making.
Rationale:
----------
A recent post that I made to rec.food.drink resulted in
a number of letters from fellow wine makers. This coupled
with a similar post (made by someone else) to
rec.crafts.brewing has generated a substantial level of
discussion in that newsgroup. Given this, I believe that
there may be enough people on the net to support a newsgroup
dedicated to wine making. It could be argued that there
probably isn't enough support for a wine making newsgroup
however, rec.crafts.brewing shows a substantial level of
activity related to beers and meads, thus I believe a
discussion of a wine making newsgroup is warrented.

Unmoderated group rec.crafts.winemaking
Newsgroups line:
rec.crafts.winemaking The tasteful art of making wine.
Votes must be recieved by 23:59:59 GMT, 15 Sep 1993.
This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party. For voting
questions only, contact <asolovay@geoworks.com>. For questions about
the proposed group, contact <tigger@tigger.cl.msu.edu>.
CHARTER
Rec.crafts.winemaking will be a news group dedicated to the
discussion of the process, recipes, tips, storage, techniques
and general exchange of lore on the process, methods and
history of wine making. The above list is not considered
exhaustive, and if a discussion is of interest to wine makers
it may be deemed as appropriate. This group is to be general
enough to encompass both traditional grape wines as well as
wines which are generally described as country wines, sparkling
wines, and champagnes. In general, the appropriatness of
a particular beverage will be determined by the process
involved in its making. Essentially, if the process used
is that of wine making, then the discussion is considered
appropriate. This may include such beverages as cider or
mead. It is recognized that there are topics which are
of interest to both wine makers and brewers, and posting or
cross posting of such topics is considered both appropriate
and desirable. Personal stories and experiences shall be
welcome as long as they pertain to the craft of wine making.
STANDARD VOTING INFO
You should send MAIL (posts to a group are invalid) to
votes@geoworks.com
(just replying by MAIL to this message should work, *if* your
newsreader honors the "Reply-To" line in the article header). Votes
sent to other addresses will be discarded. Your mail message should
contain one and only one of the following statements:
I vote YES on rec.crafts.winemaking
I vote NO on rec.crafts.winemaking
I vote ABSTAIN on rec.crafts.winemaking
You may add a comment, but anything other than a definite statement
involving the group name and "yes", "no", "for", or "against" on a
single line may be rejected by the automatic vote counting program.
If you later change your mind you may send in another vote, which will
automatically supercede all previous votes. "ABSTAIN" votes serve to
cancel previous votes.
Standard Guidelines for voting apply - one vote per person (not per
account). 100 more YES votes than NO votes and 2/3 of all votes being
YES are the requirements for group creation. "ABSTAIN" votes are not
counted in the above calculation; their only role is to cancel
previous votes.
Every vote will be acknowledged by EMail. The CFV will be repeated
once; the 2d CFV will contain a "bounce-ack", i.e. a list of people
whose ACK messages bounced when I sent them.
