REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group rec.sport.pigeons
This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) on the creation of a new
internet-wide unmoderated usenet newsgroup, rec.sport.pigeons
Follow-ups are directed to news.groups - please honor.
It is being issued according to the accepted guidelines for newsgroup
creation. Its language is based on previous RFDs.
Newsgroups line:
rec.sport.pigeons Discussions of raising and Racing Pigeon issues.
RATIONALE: rec.sport.pigeons
The newsgroup "rec.sport.pigeons" is proposed to provide a forum for
discussion by the thousands of people worldwide involved with raising,
training and racing both fancy and homing pigeons. Currently there
are no newsgroups where one can find these topics being discussed,
however there are increasing numbers of internet users involved in
this sport/hobby. As those involved with raising racing pigeons well
know, it is often a consuming passion which envelopes you. As my
homepage will provide you with numberous frequently visited links
concerning pigeons.
Racing pigeons are a far cry from the "rat" pigeons you see on the
streets. I honestly feel most anyone would be enlightened to know
more about these "thoroughbred Race Horses of the Sky!"
Possible discussion issues include:
- Training and selective breeding techniques for pedigree pigeon
strains.
- Announcements of race dates, tournaments, winners, etc.
- Questions and Answers.
- Discussions regarding the many Publications (Racing Pigeon Bulletin,
Racing Pigeon Digest, etc).
- Buying and selling information on Pigeons (Which often sell for in
the hundreds or even thousands of dollars per bird!)
CHARTER: rec.sport.pigeons
An unmoderated newsgroup which would provide a world wide forum for the
discussion of the Racing Homing Pigeon sport.
To assist fanciers in the aquisition of information on Pigeons as well
as an informative arena for the many different world wide Race and
Auction events held.
The general "nettiquete" FAQs posted in news.announce.newusers and
news.answers apply to rec.sport.pigeons.
END CHARTER.
PROCEDURE:
This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes. In this phase
of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroups
should be raised and resolved. The discussion period will continue
for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this
proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For
Votes (CFV) may be posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion
warrants it. Please do not attempt to vote until this happens.
All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.
This RFD attempts to comply fully with the Usenet newsgroup creation
guidelines outlined in "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "How
to Format and Submit a New Group Proposal". Please refer to these
documents (available in news.announce.newgroups) if you have any
questions about the process.
DISTRIBUTION:
The complete official messages - RFD, CFV and vote results -
will be posted to these newsgroups:
news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, rec.birds, rec.pets.birds,
rec.animals.wildlife, rec.misc, rec.gambling.sports,
rec.gambling.misc

REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
unmoderated group rec.pets.birds.pigeons
This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) on the creation of a new
internet-wide unmoderated usenet newsgroup, rec.pets.birds.pigeons
Follow-ups are directed to news.groups - please honor.
It is being issued according to the accepted guidelines for newsgroup
creation. Its language is based on previous RFDs.
Newsgroups line:
rec.pets.birds.pigeons Discussions of Pigeon issues.
RATIONALE: rec.pets.birds.pigeons
The newsgroup "rec.pets.birds.pigeons" is proposed to provide a
forum for discussion by the thousands of people worldwide involved with
raising, training and racing both fancy and homing pigeons. Currently
there are no news groups where one can find these topics being
discussed,
however there are increasing numbers of internet users involved in this
sport/hobby. As those involved with raising pigeons well know, it
is often a consuming passion which envelopes you. As our rapidly
growing PIGEONS-LIST mailing list with over 220 subscribers, one can see
the popularity.
Racing pigeons are a far cry from the "rat" pigeons you see on the
streets. I honestly feel most anyone would be enlightened to know more
about these "thoroughbred race horses of the sky!"
Possible discussion issues include:
- Training and selective breeding techniques for pedigree pigeon
strains.
- Announcements of race dates, tournaments, winners, etc.
- Questions and Answers.
- Discussions regarding the many Publications (Racing Pigeon Bulletin,
Racing Pigeon Digest, etc.).
- Buying and selling information on Pigeons (Which often sell for in
the hundreds or even thousands of dollars per bird!)
- Diseases related to pigeons and maintaining pigeon health.
CHARTER: rec.pets.birds.pigeons

FIRST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2)
unmoderated group rec.pets.birds.pigeons
Newsgroup line:
rec.pets.birds.pigeons Racing Pigeons, Show Pigeons, and related material.
Votes must be received by 23:59:59 UTC, 21 Feb 1997.
This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party. Direct
questions about the proposed group to the proponent.
Proponent: Clifford Baynon <Baynon@acsu.buffalo.edu>
Votetaker: Jim Davis <jjd@primenet.com>
RATIONALE: rec.pets.birds.pigeons
The newsgroup "rec.pets.birds.pigeons" is proposed to provide a
forum for discussion by the thousands of people worldwide involved with
raising, training and racing both fancy and homing pigeons. Currently
there are no news groups where one can find these topics being discussed,
however there are increasing numbers of internet users involved in this
sport/hobby.
- Training and selective breeding techniques for pedigree pigeon strains.

Your email message should contain one and only one of the following
statements:
I vote YES rec.pets.birds.pigeons
I vote NO on rec.pets.birds.pigeons
You may also vote ABSTAIN or CANCEL. ABSTAIN does not affect the

results.
VOTING PROCEDURE NOTES:
Standard Guidelines for voting apply. One account per person and one
vote per person. Votes must be mailed directly from the voter to the
votetaker. Anonymous, forwarded or proxy votes are not valid; this
includes votes generated by WWW/HTML/CGI forms.
Vote counting is automated: If you don't follow these directions then
your vote may not get counted. If you do not receive an
acknowledgment of your vote within several days, contact the votetaker
about the problem. It's your responsibility to make sure that your
vote is registered correctly. Duplicate votes are resolved in favor
of the most recent valid vote. Addresses and votes of all voters will
be published in the final voting results post.
The purpose of a Usenet vote is to determine the genuine interest in
people who would read a proposed newsgroup. Soliciting votes from
disinterested people defeats this purpose. Please do not redistribute
this CFV. If you must, direct people to the official CFV as posted to
news.announce.newgroups. Distributing pre-marked or otherwise edited
