Request For Discussion (RFD) of sci.chem.electrochem
(unmoderated).
sci.chem.electrochem The field of electrochemistry
Proposer(s) :- Zoltan Nagy (nagy@cmt.anl.gov),
Lachlan Cranswick (lachlan@dmp.csiro.au) and
James P. Moran (moran1@a1.al.alcoa.com)
Please note that this proposed newsgroup is intended to be an open forum for
discussion of electrochemistry. Thus relevant topics for this newsgroup
should only be limited to what the participants in this proposed newsgroup
regard as electrochemistry.
--------------------------------------------
We propose a new unmoderated newsgroup called sci.chem.electrochem. The main
aim of sci.chem.electrochem is to provide an open forum for the discussion of
electrochemistry and related fields on the internet.
Following posts on sci.chem and many positive email responses there is good
support for this proposed newsgroup.
(Could people reading this post mention it to colleagues who might be
interested and benefit from a electrochemistry group but not normally use the
internet newsgroups.)
Proposed Name of Group
-------------------------
sci.chem.electrochem (unmoderated)
Purpose of New Newsgroup
---------------------------
The purpose of sci.chem.electrochem is to provide an open discussion forum for
the electrochemistry community on the internet. The newsgroups allow the rapid
and timely discussion of opinions and information that would take months or
years (or not at all) on conventional paper journals.
Topics for discussion would include (but not exclusive) :-
---------------------------------------
Battery and Energy Storage
Corrosion
Bioelectrochemistry/Biological processes
Synthesis of inorganic and organic compounds
Electrowinning/refining of metals
Electrochemical engineering
Industrial electrolysis
Fuel cells
Kinetics and mechanism of electrode reactions
Theory of charge transfer reactions
Structure of the electrochemical double layer
Electroanalytical chemistry
Electrochemical sensors
Spectroelectrochemistry
Surface electrochemistry (UHV techniques, synchrotron x-ray techniques)
Photoelectrochemistry
Conducting Polymers
Electrochemistry of semiconductors
Electrochemical process technology in electronics
Electrodeposition of metallic/semiconductor/nonmetallic/composite coatings
Electroforming
Electromachining
Electroplating
Electrodialysis (e.g. desalination)
Software
Databases
Hardware/Equipment - specs, opinions, etc.
Applications
Techniques
Announcements/reviews of papers/conferences.
General Discussion/opinions/questions.
Positions vacant
Anything else that is relevant to electrochemistry in general.
---------------------------------------------------------------
What is the Process of Creating a Newsgroup
-------------------------------------------
>(a) RFD: Discussion, i.e., public hearing to take place
in the newsgroup news.groups for approximately one month
(b) CFV: Call for votes (the voting period will be about 25 days)
(c) Counting of votes and public display of votes
(d) Announcement of new newsgroup
(a)-->(b) assumes no major disagreements about this newsgroup during
discussion. (c)-->(d) assumes that the vote is favourable., i.e.,
Y > N+100 .and. Y > (2/3)(Y+N)
Y being the number of YES votes, N being the number of NO votes for
the creation of the proposed newsgroup.
