I would like to propose a new group
sci.geo.hydrology
The charter of the group would be to :
Charter: The objective of this newsgroup is to provide a forum for
discussion on issues pertaining to surface and groundwater hydrology,
their relation to climate, water quality issues and water resource
management and policy issues. It is hoped that this will lead to frank
and open discussion and identification of key issues and directions in
the field, easier identification of and access to data sources, a
critical evaluation of modeling and data analysis methodologies,
electronic newsletters, and provide a consulting role, and stimulate
cooperative research. Announcements of meetings, special sessions and
work in progress could be facilitated. The moderator also intends to set
up and manage an electronic archive accessible through ftp, gopher, www,
and mosaic, that will be used as a repository for contributed manuscripts
(and comments), software and data source identifiers, and will operate in
conjunction with this news group.
The hydrology section is the largest single section in the American
Geophysical Union. I am sending information on this group creation
proposal to EOS, the AGU newsletter. I ran an informal survey on the
need for such a group in November and received about 30 replies, all
positive. A call for votes on the creation of this group will be
initiated by the Usenet Volunteer Votetaker hopefully around the 10th
of March.
If you are interested in the creation of this group please respond to
the discussion and the vote. Comments may also be e-mailed to
