Request for Discussion for soc.culture.indian.info, a moderated group.
As readers of the groups mentioned in the Newsgroups (except news.*)
header know, soc.culture.indian and its companion groups have become
messy for info stuff. The reasoning for this group, which should be
moderated to prevent any abuse, roughly is the same as that for
rec.radio.info, rec.music.info and other info groups.
The recommended description:
-=-=
Newsgroup:
soc.culture.indian.info
The newsgroups entry:
soc.culture.indian.info Info group for soc.culture.indian & related groups.
Charter:
* All postings will be crossposted which means that essentially, they
have to be pertinent to some group under the hierarchy.
* No discussions are allowed. But all summaries resulting from a
discussion (like travel tips etc.) are allowed.
* All postings will be clearly categorised on the subject line.
[will be expanded/revised as the suggestions come in]
-=-=
I will volunteer to the moderator if noone steps in. If anybody has
any objection to any suggestions for moderator, feel free to voice it.
Please feel free to forward this posting on any other medium but
PLEASE ensure that all followups go to news.groups.

There has been no volunteers except me in the 15 days of discussion.
Please feel free to forward this posting on any other medium but
PLEASE ensure that all followups go to news.groups.
The vote for this proposal will be handled by the UVV (Usenet Volunteer

news.announce.newgroups and the groups which this RFD has been posted to.
* Note that this RFD includes alt.culture.kerala and
alt.culture.us.asian-indian (which were not posted to in the 1st RFD).
Additionally this RFD will go to just one mailing list INDIA-D (with a
request to the list folks _NOT_ to participate if they didn't have
Usenet access).
-=-= Some of the points answered (by me) during the discussion
1. Why soc.culture.indian.info when you have soc.answers/news.answers?
2. Why not use misc.news.southasia?
3. "So far, he has only threatened to stop producing the FAQ's ..."
4. "I strongly recommend against one who seeks to become dictator
from a position of data-collector."
5. "this is needless newsgroup proliferation.
alt.i.want.to.start.another.newsgroup?"
6. "rec.travel has had postings about people traveling to india. why
shouldn't they be able to read it?"
7. "what % of net doesnt receive sci? and who are these niche readers who
are clamoring for the as-yet-undefined bits of crucial info and are not
getting it now?"
... and some more related to the above. If anyone wants the postings
pertaining to the above, let me know and I will send you the file (in
mbox format).
