CHARTER
=======
soc.culture.jordan is intended to be an unmoderated discussion newsgroup to
exchange ideas, and opinions regarding The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, her
people, her politics, and her culture. The group will welcome all people, and
accept all opinions. Topics of discussion will include but are not limited to:
* Politics * Culture
* Music * Language (Local dialect)
* Food * Tourism
* Archiology * Education
* Art * Books
* Human Rights * Social values
* History * Networking
* Research * Water resources
The discussions will be in English.
RATIONALE
=========
Many of the neighboring countries have their own groups soc.culture.turkish,
soc.culture.israel, soc.culture.arabic, soc.culture.lebanon, and
alt.culture.kuwait, but none of them is the place to discuss local issues
usually of concern to Jordanians alone. A mailing list has existed for
sometime now, but many members had to unsubscribe because of the amount of
traffic which filled their mailboxes, and we believe there is enough
interest in such a newsgroup due to the number of Jordanians on the net,
and non-Jordanians who are interested in the peace process, and the
developments in the country.
This RFD will be posted on the following newsgroups:
news.groups
news.announce.newgroups
talk.politics.mideast
soc.culture.israel
soc.culture.arabic
soc.culture.lebanon
alt.culture.kuwait
The discussion will be held in news.groups. The discussion will start
November 01, 1994, and will last for three weeks, until November 22, 1994.
If there is enough interest in the newsgroup, a Call for Votes (CFV) will
be posted shortly after the end of the discussion period. The voting will
be conducted by an neutral third-party.
To get more information on newsgroup creation, please refer to the article
"How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" usually found on
news.announce.newsgroups.
