How to Set Up and Configure NewsRover with your Newsdemon.com Account

 

Step 1 - Download your free version of Newsrover with your paid subscription from your Member Login area

Step 2 - You will find the pre-configured Newsrover download available on this page. Click on the link to download


Step 3 - Once you have downloaded the software, double-click on the file to begin the installation process. Press "Next" to start.


Step 4 - On the license agreement page, click on the checkbox "I accept the terms of the license agreement" and press "Yes"


Step 5 - The next screen determines your download destination. By default, it will download to your "Program Files" or "Program Files (X86)" folder. Click "Install" to continue


Step 6 - Click on the "Launch Program File" checkbox and click on "Finish"


Step 7 - The next window that will appear will default to the root directory of your main drive. Change the directory by clicking "Browse" and choosing an alternate directory. Otherwise, click on "OK" to continue


Step 8 - You will then be prompted to enter in your information. The server is already pre-configured with your Newsdemon account. Here, simply enter the information found in your Member Login page or the confirmation email that you received at sign-up The username is usually preceded with a "p". Enter all of your information here and then press "OK"


Step 9 - On the next window, click on "Download newsgroup list from server" which will both test your connection as well as download all of the available groups available from Newsdemon.com


Step 10 - Once the program has started you will see all of the available servers from Newsdemon.com. Right click on the server that pertains to your account.


Step 11 - After right clicking on the server, choose "Subscriber/Unsubscribe newsgroups" from the menu. This will take you to a new screen to subscribe to newsgroups


Step 12 - Search by keywords for the newsgroup you wish to subscribe to. In our example, we use Genealogy. This automatically filters the results below and displays the available newsgroups in the bottom window.


Step 13 - Once you have found the newsgroups you wish to subscribe to, double click on each. This will subscribe you to each Newsgroup. Your confirmation that it has been subscribed to is the red arrow that precedes the name of the group


Step 14 - After searching and selecting all of the newsgroups you wish to subscribe to, press "Finish". You will see all of the newsgroups you have subscribed to underneath the Newsdemon.com server entry. You should get a window that automatically will display that allows you to download all of the available headers of the subscribed Newsgroups. Click on "Geta All Message Headers"


Step 15 - After searching and selecting all of the newsgroups you wish to subscribe to, press "Finish". You will see all of the newsgroups you have subscribed to underneath the Newsdemon.com server entry. You should get a window that automatically will display that allows you to download all of the available headers of the subscribed Newsgroups. Click on "Geta All Message Headers". All downloaded messages will appear in the right side pane.

Congratulations! You have set-up and configured Newsrover! Contact Support for any questions not answered in this tutorial.

Note: If your account is not working properly, or if you have problems connecting, click on "Configure" in the main menu bar. Check to be sure that your username and password is correct. For SSL users, please check your available Ports to ensure that you are using the correct one. Click on "SSL" connection and include the port number if applicable to potentially resolve any connection issues.

 

Some accounts may take up to 15-30 minutes from the time of confirmation to be activated.

 

Ports Information:

We offer a variety of ports for your downloading purposes. If you are experiencing slowness, you should first try changing the port you are downloading through and see if the problem is resolved. Often, changing the port will change the routing through the internet and increase your connection speed.

Standard Routing Ports for NORTH AMERICAN SERVER:

The following ports allow you to force packets through specific ports:

  • news.newsdemon.com port(s): 119, 23, 25 and 80
  • europe.newsdemon.com port(s): 119, 443 and 8080
  • us-secure.newsdemon.com * (THIS IS 256-BIT ENCRYPTED) port(s): 563, 80 and 81
  • europe-ssl.newsdemon.com * (THIS IS 256-BIT ENCRYPTED) port(s): 563, 80 and 81

Standard Routing Ports for EUROPEAN SERVERS:

The following ports allow you to force packets through specific ports:

  • europe.newsdemon.com port(s): 119, 443 and 8080
  • news.newsdemon.com port(s): 119, 23, 25 and 80
  • us-secure.newsdemon.com * (THIS IS 256-BIT ENCRYPTED) port(s): 563, 80 and 81
  • europe-ssl.newsdemon.com * (THIS IS 256-BIT ENCRYPTED) port(s): 563, 80 and 81
