Usenet Newsgroup Terms - Newsgroup (NG)

A collection of messages or a directory on a Usenet server. Usenet newsgroups are usually named according to the topic of the discussions within. Newsgroups in general, are segregated to specific subject matters. Following a variety of themes and topics, Usenet newsgroups offer a method of communication that is specific to categories, and often times are exclusive to those matters, and do not vary. Much like forums, Newsgroups offer a method of communicating and sharing information on a particular subject matter where it is available on a community level. Meaning, that it is open for those subscribed or visiting the Usenet newsgroup to read and share the opinions put forth to these groups. Newsgroups are generally hosted by various organizations and institutions that tie together with the use of a Usenet server to synchronize the contents of each Usenet newsgroup, so you, the subscriber, have a large availability of information stemming from all across the world.
