SGI has put a lot of effort into audio I/O and we are starting to see
quite a few audio-related postings in the comp.sys.sgi newsgroups.
However, you have to search through too many different places to find
them. Quite often it's not at all clear which of the newsgroups is the
appropriate place to post about SGI audio.
Audio developers and users and other interested folks need to have a
good place to hold discussions of SGI audio. The traffic on the other
SGI groups is often too high for there to be a lot of focus given to
audio.
In order to facilitate discussions among the SGI audio developers,
users, and interested parties, I propose that we add another newsgroup
to the comp.sys.sgi hierarchy - comp.sys.sgi.audio.
Description: Unmoderated
Charter:
The newsgroup would be unmoderated and would be used for
discussion of use and operation of audio and MIDI on SGI
systems. Some likely topics would be:
The SGI audio and MIDI libraries,
Audio Hardware Characteristics,
Audio Algorithms and Techniques,
Example audio programs,
Issues involving use of audio with graphics and video,
Discussions of Commercial Audio Apps.
One-line Synopsis: comp.sys.sgi.audio is for discussing audio on SGI
workstations.
A formal call for votes will be requested after the 30 day discussion
period if it still sounds like a good idea after discussion.
Thanks. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

The RESULT posted earlier had inadvertantly left out one day's worth
of ballots. This is the correct tally and acknowledgement list. I
apologize for the error earlier. I wish to thank furio ercolessi
