CALL FOR DISCUSSION
comp.sys.next.bugs Discussion and solutions for known NeXT bugs.
(unmoderated)
With the release of version 3.0 of NeXTStep has come a rash of bug
reports, as would be expected with any major software upgrade.
This group will provide a forum for discussion of new bugs and
a resource for those looking for bug fixes and workarounds.
Please note that discussion will be conducted on news.groups.

I apologize for the delay in posting this second CFD. There has
been very little discussion regarding this group to date, however
there was one fairly persuasive argument for making the group
moderated. The problems I see with making the group moderated
are these:
1) Is there anyone who would be willing to moderate the group?
2) Would the moderator be expected to confirm that all proposed
postings are indeed actual bugs? If so, see 1).
Follow-ups to news.groups.

CALL FOR VOTES
This is a formal Call For Votes (CFV) for the formation of a new Usenet
newsgroup, comp.sys.next.bugs, as described below. The RFD for this
group was originated by Diana Shoemaker ([email protected]) and was
posted in news.announce.newgroups on September 24th, 1992. Discussion
in news.groups since that time has been generally favorable (though
light), and no significant objections to the group's name or charter
have been raised.
The newsgroup will be constituted as follows:
comp.sys.next.bugs Discussion and solutions for known NeXT bugs.
(unmoderated)
Charter:
With the release of version 3.0 of NeXTStep has come a rash of bug
reports, as would be expected with any major software upgrade.

a resource for those looking for bug fixes and workarounds for all
versions of NeXTStep. A master list of confirmed bugs will be
maintained and will be posted periodically, as well as being made
available from one or more archive sites. This list will include
known fixes and/or workarounds.
VOTE ADDRESSES:
"Yes" votes (in support of the formation of comp.sys.next.bugs as
described) should be sent to
[email protected]
"No" votes (in opposition to the formation of comp.sys.next.bugs
as described) should be sent to
[email protected]
VOTE FORMAT:
Votes should carry a subject line confirming the voter's
intent, either "I vote yes on comp.sys.next.bugs" or "I vote no
on comp.sys.next.bugs" as appropriate. Variations in subject
line format will be accepted as long as the intent is clearly
expressed. If the vote carries an empty subject line the
message body will be inspected for confirmation of voting
intent.
VOTES SENT AS REPLIES TO THE CFV:
Votes sent as replies to the originator of this CFV
([email protected]) will be counted as "yes" or "no" votes
according to their subject line or message body.
AMBIGUOUS VOTE RESOLUTION:
Ambiguous votes -- those whose subject lines do not make clear
the voter's intent, or whose subject line clashes with the vote
address -- sent to either the vote addresses or the reply
address will, where possible, be returned to their senders for
clarification. Ambiguous votes which can not by returned to
their senders or for which no clarification is provided will be
identified in vote mass acknowledgements and in the final vote
tally.
VOTING PERIOD:
Votes will be collected for a period beginning when this CFV is
approved for publication in news.announce.newgroups and ending
at 23:59 GMT on Monday, December 14th, 1992. Votes arriving at the
voting addresses or the reply address after the expiration of
the voting period will be discarded.
You may change your vote at any time before the expiry of the
voting period by simply submitting a new vote. The last vote
to be cast by any given individual before the end of the voting
period will be counted; earlier votes cast by that individual
will be discarded.
And remember, it's one person, one vote.

2ND CALL FOR VOTES AND VOTE ACK
This is the second Call For Votes (CFV) and vote acknowledgement for
the formation of a new Usenet newsgroup, comp.sys.next.bugs, as
described below. The RFD for this group was originated by Diana
Shoemaker ([email protected]) and was posted in
news.announce.newgroups on September 24th, 1992. Discussion in
news.groups since that time has been generally favorable (though
light), and no significant objections to the group's name or charter
have been raised.
The original CFV was posted on or about November 12, 1992, and I
received a fair number of votes in the days following the posting.
On November 16, however, my machine was unexpectedly disconnected
>from the net and remained disconnected until about 17:00 CST today,
December 3. At the end of this posting is a listing of people from
whom I received votes before the machine was disconnected. There
has been only one vote come in since the machine was reconnected.
I'm sure that there were a number of votes that bounced during
the disconnection, so if your vote bounced, or you sent it more
than a day or two ago, please try again now. This disconnection
was beyond my control; I hope that we can now resume the vote-taking
without having to invalidate the process and begin again.
The newsgroup will be constituted as follows:
comp.sys.next.bugs Discussion and solutions for known NeXT bugs.

If there are no significant objections to the vote within the next 5

comp.sys.next.bugs Discussion and solutions for known NeXT bugs.
(unmoderated)
Charter:
With the release of version 3.0 of NeXTStep has come a rash of bug
reports, as would be expected with any major software upgrade.
This group will provide a forum for discussion of new bugs and
a resource for those looking for bug fixes and workarounds for all
versions of NeXTStep. A master list of confirmed bugs will be
maintained and will be posted periodically, as well as being made
available from one or more archive sites. This list will include
known fixes and/or workarounds.
