Topics would include those current discussed in alt.bbs, .ads, .allsysop, .cnet, .internet, .lists, and .lists.d. Topics related to specific BBS software are not included, and can be discussed in their corresponding comp.sys.* group or form a subgroup of comp.bbs (like comp.bbs.waffle is attempting at this time). Discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups. As per the Guidelines, discussion that occurs there is the only discussion that counts. If your site does not carry news.groups, and you are interested in this discussion, get your administrator to carry the group. Currently there is a proposal to move alt.bbs.waffle to comp.bbs.waffle. It is a seperate proposal from this one, but the course of that vote may affect this proposal. If the group fails, I'd be willing to amend the charter to allow for discussion of BBS software that runs on different platforms, thus allowing comp.bbs.waffle discussion. -- /// ____ \\\ |"Sorry, did I say something wrong? Charter: Comp.bbs.misc is for discussion of all aspects of Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs). Topics would include those current discussed in alt.bbs, .ads, .allsysop, .internet, .lists, and .lists.d. Topics related to specific BBS software are not included, and can be discussed in their correspond- ing comp.sys.* group or form a subgroup of comp.bbs (like comp.bbs.- waffle). As per the Guidelines, discussion that occurs there is the only discussion that counts. If your site does not carry news.groups, and you are interested in this discussion, get your administrator to carry the group. comp.bbs.waffle has now successfully passed the voting procedure, and will shortly be created. Thus the door has been closed on the discussion of specific BBS software in comp.bbs.misc. Said discussion should take part in either the relevent comp.sys.* group, or create its own comp.bbs.* group. Thus, the suggestion of merging alt.bbs.cnet into comp.bbs.misc has been dropped, unless it is a platform indepenent piece of software. There has been discussion opposed to the merging of the .ads, .lists, and .lists.d groups into comp.bbs.misc, on the grounds that they would reduce the quality of posts in comp.bbs.misc below the current alt.bbs group's quality. If there is enough interest in creating a moderated comp.bbs.lists group and unmoderated .d companion group, to handle both ads and lists, I will consider adding them to this proposal as ballot elements. I may be willing to act as moderator, but I might not be able. Depends on the administration here. Lack of discussion on this subtopic will be taken as disapproval of creation of subgroups and approval of their absorption. The first RFD was posted on Monday, April 13th, 1992. The CFV is tentatively proposed for posting on Wednesday, May 13th, 1992. -- /// ____ \\\ |"Sorry, did I say something wrong? However, after checking the Guidelines as to proposals for moderated newsgroups, as explicitly written it would require we push this proposal for another 21 to 31 days while the extra group of comp.bbs.lists be worked out. It is quite likely that comp.bbs.lists will be created later. Indeed, at about 1 week into the CFV of this proposal, I will start the RFD for comp.bbs.lists. The current thought is that .misc be used for discussion of .lists, rather than forming a .d group. However, both groups will be put forward in the RFD to avoid adding groups and extending the time.
