Proponent : Randy Saint <[email protected]> This is a formal request for discussion on the creation of an unmoderated newsgroup, comp.programming.contests. This RFD has been posted in accordance with the Guidelines for Newsgroup Creation. This RFD is being posted to the following relevant newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, comp.programming, rec.games.programmer, comp.os.msdos.programmer, comp.sys.amiga.programmer, comp.sys.mac.programmer.misc, comp.unix.programmer, comp.ai.games. The RFD and/or CFV may be posted to related mailing lists. Discussion will take place in news.groups only. Please post follow-ups to news.groups only. This is not a call for votes. Please don't vote now. CHARTER The purpose of this newsgroup is a central location to post announcements, discussion, and results of programming contests. RATIONALE At the moment there is not one specific group where people can go to find out information about programming contests. Currently, programmers must scan several different groups looking for posts announcing contests. Also, traditionally organizers of contests must create mailing lists for each contest. Then, each programmer's mailbox is flooded with conversation about the contest. This would also be an area to post results of programming contests. PROCEDURE After a discussion period of 30 days, if there are no overwhelming objections to the formation of the group, a CFV will be posted to the same groups as this RFD. The voting period will be as outlined in the guidelines (21-31 days). If the vote passes by a majority of 2/3, and there are 100 more yes votes than no votes, then the group will be created. -- Randy Saint [email protected] From [email protected] Wed Jun 21 01:16:34 1995 Status: RO Path: uunet!bounce-back From: [email protected] (Kenneth Herron) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,comp.programming,comp.ai.games,comp.sys.mac.programmer.misc,comp.unix.programmer,comp.os.msdos.programmer,comp.sys.amiga.programmer,rec.games.programmer Subject: CFV: comp.programming.contests Followup-To: poster Date: 21 Jun 1995 01:12:06 -0400 Organization: Usenet Volunteer Votetakers Lines: 47 Sender: [email protected] Approved: [email protected] Expires: 13 Jul 1995 00:00:00 GMT Message-ID: <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] NNTP-Posting-Host: rodan.uu.net Xref: gs2.UU.NET news.announce.newgroups:7073 news.groups:154645 comp.programming:17522 comp.ai.games:1714 comp.sys.mac.programmer.misc:7073 comp.unix.programmer:31805 comp.os.msdos.programmer:58856 comp.sys.amiga.programmer:71281 rec.games.programmer:61017 FIRST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2) unmoderated group comp.programming.contests Newsgroups line: comp.programming.contests Announcements & results of programming contests Votes must be received by 23:59:59 GMT, 12 July 1995.
