Note also that I check the newsgroup "news.groups" daily for new discussion items and am keeping a discussion file that gets all discussion items appended to it. A summary will be posted in the upcoming "Call for Votes (CFV)". All current discussion posts pertaining to this issue may be found in "news.groups". Proposed Charter ---------------- This newsgroup will be a forum for discussing software licensing technology. It is proposed as an UNMODERATED group to encourage the free flow of ideas and experiences with this relatively new and very important technology. Areas of discussion should include: 1. Standards in the area, initially including but by no means limited to the LS API (License Service) that was announced a few weeks ago and endorsed by many significant players in the software product arena. 2. Experience as developers including software licensing in products, using commercial software licensing products, or home grown solutions. 3. Experience distributing software licensed with software licensing technology, as well as the distribution of licenses. 4. Experience as administrators of systems running software licensed with software licensing technology. 5. Experience as users of software licensed with software licensing technology. Given the breadth of areas impacted by this technology, there is no existing newsgroup which includes the audiences interested in this technology, and thus this proposal for creating the comp.software.licensing group. The tenative date for closure of the discussion period is July 9, 1992. How to respond or take part in this discussion: ----------------------------------------------- 1. Just go to the news group "news.groups" and post your discussion articles there. Please make sure the post includes the new newsgroup title "comp.software.licensing" in the subject line so all participants can more easily find your article. 2. Discussion items are totally open, but usually include ideas on the group charter and the name and classification of the new newsgroup. What's the next step: --------------------- 1. Keep watching for new posts to "news.announce.newgroups" and in this newsgroup for further calls for discussion and the up and coming "Call for Votes (CFV)". 2. During the 30 day voting period, you may request a copy of the complete, unadulterated file containing all discussion posts, which will result in me emailing the file to you. 3. Unless the discussion causes an unexpected delay, the call for votes should be posted around July 10, 1992. As per usenet rules, followups are directed to news.groups From [email protected] Thu Jul 16 14:41:19 1992 Xref: uunet news.announce.newgroups:2534 news.groups:54294 comp.misc:17087 comp.unix.misc:5152 comp.unix.admin:7551 misc.legal.computing:1353 comp.admin.policy:1895 comp.software-eng:9993 Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,comp.misc,comp.unix.misc,comp.unix.admin,misc.legal.computing,comp.admin.policy,comp.software-eng Path: uunet!bounce-back From: [email protected] (Marc S.
