PROPOSED GROUP: comp.infosystems.interpedia STATUS: Unmoderated. RATIONALE: Since Rick Gates first proposed the creation of a public-domain encyclopedia for Internet access, this idea has grown with the realization that access to accurate up-to-date information requires access to ongoing discussions. The current Interpedia mailing-list is handling so many messages that people are beginning to complain about the load on their mailboxes, and several participants have expressed a desire for a newsgroup. CHARTER: comp.interpedia will be a newsgroup for discussion of all aspects of the proposed Internet Encyclopedia, or Interpedia, including two main areas of discussion: -- the collection, creation, and organization of textual and other reference material appropriate for an encyclopedia -- the creation of new software which uses an encyclopedia metaphor to allow access to any and all Internet services, resources, and information, including but not limited to material specifically collected or created for the Interpedia.
