REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION FOR THE NEW NEWSGROUP COMP.DCOM.ISDN
-----------------------------------------------------------

Name: comp.dcom.isdn
Status: non-moderated

PROPOSED CHARTER:

The new newsgroup comp.dcom.isdn would provide a forum for the discussion of
all ISDN - related matters. This includes everything from basic questions -
and answers to applications, products, switching equipment, interfaces,
protocols, transmission media, standards and trends. The group is intended to
help make the topic more understood with the background of the introduction of
the service within the U.S. and many other countries. Comp.dcom.isdn should be
a truly international group with contributions from everywhere ISDN is in any
state-from proposed to production. The group should help accelerate ISDN
superseding what comes to be known as POTS (plain old phone service).

REASONS/BACKGROUND:

There is a great need for information around ISDN. A call for a group alt.isdn
has already received overwhelming interest with the common wish to make it a
truly worldwide comp.dcom.isdn group, which should be unmoderated.

The proposed group will be supported by an own ftp-server holding ISDN-related
documents and archives of the discussions. A monthly FAQ list and a separate
calendar for isdn-related events will maintained.

The group's initial charter is set very broadly. In case of a high message
volume a future split into comp.dcom.isdn.bisdn, protocols, ... might become
necessary.
