This is a formal Request for Discussion for the creation of
newsgroup for the discussion of entertainment and other light-
hearted issues related to Hong Kong.
Proposed Name:
--------------
soc.culture.hongkong.entertainment
Moderation Status:
------------------
unmoderated
Rationale:
----------
The full name should have be soc.culture.hongkong.entertainment,
and is abbreviated for ease in typing.
There is currently no specific forum for the discussion of
entertainment and other light-hearted issues related to Hong
Kong. Many netters in soc.culture.hongkong feel that a separate
subgroup discussing these matters should be created, so that more
of soc.culture.hongkong can be devoted to social, cultural, and
political matters, some of which are becoming very topical in the
run-up to 1997, the transfer of sovereignty from the U.K. to
China.
Many Hong Kong singers, entertainers and movie stars are very
popular in other Chinese-speaking areas of the world, including
mainland China and Taiwan.
At present, about one half of soc.culture.hongkong topics are
related to Hong Kong singers, movies, other entertainment
matters, and discussion of personal views on love and dating. It
is hoped that such matters will be discussed on the new proposed
soc.culture.hk.ent instead.
Charter:
--------
To provide a forum for the discussion the discussion of
entertainment and other light-hearted issues related to Hong
Kong.
Procedure:
----------
Discussion is to be held *only* in news.groups.
By 16 January, 1994, it shall be determined whether there is
sufficient demand for a Call for Votes.
Vote:
-----
The vote will be conducted by an impartial third party.
