                     REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
       unmoderated group rec.arts.comics.marketplace.goldsilver
       unmoderated group rec.arts.comics.marketplace.bronze-80s
     unmoderated group rec.arts.comics.marketplace.nineties-2000
          unmoderated group rec.arts.comics.marketplace.sets
      unmoderated group rec.arts.comics.marketplace.masslistings

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of 5
new unmoderated usenet groups. This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you
cannot vote at this time. Procedural details are below.

Newsgroup lines:
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.bronze-80s	Buying/selling bronze age (80s) comics.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.goldsilver	Buying/selling gold and silver age.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.masslistings	Mass lists of comics.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.nineties-2000	Buying/selling 1990s+ comics.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.sets	Buying/selling sets of comics.

RATIONALE: all groups

rec.arts.comics.marketplace is a meeting place for buyers and sellers
of comics to buy and sell comics. It is currently very busy and time
consuming to browse due to the wide scope of the billions of comics
available. The creation of 5 new, more specific newsgroups will allow
buyers to find the sort of comics they are interested in more quickly
without needlessly sifting through thousands of comics unrelated to
their particular interests.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.goldsilver

Golden Age and Silver Age comics are bought and sold here. Posts
should be 100 percent on topic. Comics from the other eras should
never be posted here. Reprints should not be posted here unless they
were printed during the era.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.bronze-80s

Comics from the seventies and eightie's are bought and sold
here. Posts should be 85-90 percent on topic. A few off topic comics
could be present if the majority of the comics contained in the post
are of the correct era.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.nineties-2000

Comics from the 1990's to the year 2000 and beyond are bought and sold
here. Posts should be loosely 65 percent on topic. This group allows
for much more miscellany. If a post is totally miscellaneous, post it
under masslistings.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.sets

Comics are bought and sold here in the form of sets, lots, and runs
with individual pricing discouraged. Graphic Novels and Trade
Paperbacks may also be listed here

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.masslistings

Comics are bought and sold here. This newsgroup is reserved for the
more miscellaneous and/or massive and/or user unfriendly posts. List
5000 issue comic collections here as well as A-Z lists or anything
that doesn't fit elsewhere. Auctions should also go here.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: all groups

Do not crosspost. Pick one group for each post.

END CHARTER.

PROCEDURE:

This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes. In this phase
of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroups
should be raised and resolved. The discussion period will continue
for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this
proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For
Votes (CFV) will be posted by a neutral vote taker. Please do not
attempt to vote until this happens.

All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups.

This RFD attempts to comply fully with the Usenet newsgroup creation
guidelines outlined in "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "How
to Format and Submit a New Group Proposal". Please refer to these
documents (available in news.announce.newgroups) if you have any
questions about the process.

unmoderated group rec.arts.comics.marketplace.post-silver (renames rec.arts.comics.marketplace)

CHANGES from previous RFD:

The previous RFD was disliked by everyone. Not one person expressed
anything but negative vibe towards this RFDs previous state. So...it
has been totally revised. Not much of anything is the same as it was
before.

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of 2
new unmoderated usenet groups and the renaming of another. This is not
a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time. Procedural
details are below.

Newsgroup lines:
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.gold+silver	Buying/selling gold and silver age.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.post-silver	Buying/selling post silver age.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.post-silver.indies	Buying/selling indies.

Currently, rac.m gets an average of 300 posts per day. With the
gold+silver posts gone, this should go down to 230 or so and with
the indies taken out, hopefully, the number of daily posts will get down
under 200.

These numbers are based on a quick survey of rac.m conducted by the
proponent of this proposal that has a huge margin of error. He went to
dejanews and found for 5 randomly picked days, nov 17-21 of 1997, 1742
messages were posted total and of these ...
154 were auctions
83 were sets
86 were wanted to buy posts
206 were gold/silver related
206 were independent publisher (not marvel or DC) related
283 were marvel related
246 were DC related
Half of the posts were unaccounted for.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.gold+silver

Golden Age and Silver Age comics are bought and sold here.
These are comics published around 1970 and before.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.post-silver

Comics published by Marvel and DC from the early 1970s to
the present day are bought and sold here.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.post-silver.indies

Comics published by publishers independent of marvel and
DC from the early 1970s to the present day are bought and
sold here.

END CHARTER.

CHANGES from previous RFD:

The indies group has been killed and a current group has been
substituted. The distribution has been increased. All the group names
have been changed.

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the creation of 2

rec.arts.comics.marketplace.current	Buying/selling recent comics.
rec.arts.comics.marketplace.pre-1970	Buying/selling gold and silver age.

Currently, rac.m gets an average of 250-300 posts per day. A split
is necessary. The pre-1970 group would get about 20 percent of
this traffick while the other two groups; rac.m.1970-1989 and
rac.m.current would share the remaining traffick at 40 percent each.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.pre-1970

Golden Age and Silver Age comics are bought and sold here.
These are comics published around 1970 and before.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.1970-1989

Comics published from the years 1970-1989 are bought
and sold here.

END CHARTER.

CHARTER: rec.arts.comics.marketplace.current

Recently published comics that do not belong in any
of the other groups are bought and sold here.
