It will allow participants to exchangeinformation on  ESL/EFL pedagogy, classroom practices and techniques, and the concerns of those working in the profession.  Group Name:     misc.education.esl-efl   Status:     Unmoderated  Background:  >From its inception in the late 1800's using the grammar translation method,the teaching of English has evolved into a recognized discipline.  English is now the most spoken second language and has replaced French as the lingua franca of the world. Its professional organization Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) has approximately 23,000 members, and International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), its European counterpart, has approximately 7,000 members.  Purpose:  The primary goal of this group is to allow participants to exchange information about ESL/EFL pedagogy, classroom practices and concerns, second language acquisition, and the general state of the profession.   Discussion:  Comments on this proposed new newsgroup should be posted to the USENET Newsgroup  news.groups .
