This is a formal Request for Discussion on the creation of a new newsgroup
called "misc.invest.canada" (not moderated).

This announcement is cross-posted to newsgroups whose readers may have
interest in the discussion about the new group; follow-up discussion will
take place in "news.groups".

REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION
----------------------

NEWSGROUP

  misc.invest.canada (not moderated)

PURPOSE/CHARTER

The newsgroup 'misc.invest.canada' would be a forum for discussing
issues related to investment in Canada for people around the world who
are interested in financial markets in Canada. Topics could include,
but would not be limited to
    - Canadian tax and investment laws, RRSP's etc.
    - Canadian bonds and other financial instruments
    - Canadian companies on Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Alberta,
      stock exchanges.
    - Business sectors more relevant to Canada - Resource, diamond, gold,
oil and gas, base metals etc.
    - Canadian mutual funds
    - Canadian business media

RATIONALE

Currently these issues are discussed in misc.invest, which is mostly
discussing investing in US. The heavy flood of articles on this
newsgroup discourages people who are interested exclusively in
Canadian financial issues to start a discussion. When few items
regarding Canadian companies are posted they are soon overwhelmed by
the news on US companies. This new newsgroup will exclusively discuss
Canadian topics resulting in more open and relevant discussions about
  the growing Canadian financial market.

NEWSGROUP CREATION

The discussion period will be from May 10th, 1993 to June 7, 1993.
Please post all discussion in news.groups.

If a consensus is reached by the end of the discussion period,
a CFV (Call for Votes) will be posted at that time. The voting period
  will last for 21 days.

Thanks for listening and for your interest !

3rd CALL FOR VOTES AND VOTE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
             -------------------------------------------

On 23rd June 93 a Call for Votes was announced for the creation of the
group misc.invest.canada. This is the third announcement.
If you've already voted, please do not vote again. Instructions
and the charter follow.

The RFD was originated by Vilok Kusumakar (vilok@bnr.ca) and was posted
on 10th May 1993. Both the name and status of the proposed group have
been discussed, however, following more detailed explanations no
objections have been received.

====================================================================

This is a formal Call For Votes(CFV) on the creation of a new newsgroup
called "misc.invest.canada" (not moderated).

The instructions on how to vote are located after the charter in this article!

CALL FOR VOTE:
--------------

NEWSGROUP

  misc.invest.canada (not moderated)

FOLLOWUP DISCUSSION
The period for discussion has ended. You may continue the discussion
while the votes are being taken, but this will not have any effect on
the proposal of misc.invest.canada. Any followup discussion will
  be carried out on news.groups.

VOTING PERIOD
  Start: Wednesday, June 23, 1993, 00:01 GMT
  End: Tuesday, July 19, 1993, 23:59 GMT
Votes received before or after the voting period will not be counted.
Call For Votes will last for 30 days.
This Call For Votes will be posted two more times in the next 30 days,
  with voter acknowledgement.

HOW TO VOTE:

                    RESULT : misc.invest.canada
                    ---------------------------

The voting for the proposed newsgroup misc.invest.canada
was concluded at Monday, July 19, 1993, 23:59 GMT

291 valid votes were received :-

268 YES votes (in favour of creation)
                23 NO votes (against creation)
               ---
               291 Total

This meets the criteria for creation (100 more yes votes are received
than no votes, and that at least two thirds of the votes are in favour).

Therefore misc.invest.canada PASSES the voting stage.

The group should be created 26 July barring objections to the vote
procedure. Thanks again to all those who voted or who gave advice.
