This RFD has been issued in accordance with the guidelines set in the "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" FAQ regularly posted to news.announce.newgroups. Please refer to this article if you have any questions about the newsgroup creation process. **This is not a call for votes. Please do not vote now.** This RFD is being cross-posted to the following relevant newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups rec.video, rec.video.desktop, rec.video.production It will then be sent to related mailing lists: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] CHARTER rec.video.professional would be a newsgroup dealing with specific technical and artistic issues in professional video, television and broadcasting. Topics would include: + Policy (e.g. federal regulations passed down from the Federal Communications Commission) and operation (e.g. day-to-day physical plant) of broadcast, production and post production facilities. + Announcements of events of interest to the video, television and broadcasting community such as conferences and conventions. + ENG (Electronic News Gathering) equipment specifications. + New ENG technology such as disk-based (as opposed to tape-based) cameras. + ENG videotape formats. + Linear and nonlinear editing. + Special Effect design and creation. + Problem solving and trouble-shooting. + Production artistry. + Single- and multiple-camera productions. + In-studio and remote (out of studio) productions. MODERATION POLICY The sole purpose of moderating the proposed newsgroup is to restrict the discussion to subjects related to the video profession. All articles dealing with such subjects will be accepted, regardless of the point of view of the author. The moderator will reject articles not pertaining to topics described in the Charter, including: + Commercial announcements. + Personal attacks and flames. + Political discussions not directly related to the video profession. + Questions or comments pertaining to video hobbyists or amateurs (these articles will be redirected to the appropriate newsgroups). The proposed moderator is Michael Silbergleid <[email protected]>. However, during the discussion, other video professionals are encouraged to come forward to be co-moderators, alternate moderators, and/or backup moderators. RATIONALE There is considerable interest in forming this newsgroup from those who are video, television and broadcasting professionals currently posting on rec.video, rec.video.desktop, and rec.video.production. There is a certain dissatisfaction in the professional community with those existing newsgroups as they contain mostly amateurs and hobbyists. PROCEDURE Please post any response to this message to news.groups. If you use the followup feature on your newsreader this should happen automatically. It is important to understand that all discussions about the merits of this proposal should occur on news.groups. Unless the discussion indicates a need to resubmit a new RFD, a Call for Votes (CFV) will be posted in approximately three to four weeks after the posting of this RFD. FUTURE CALL FOR VOTES Please do not post any votes now. This is not a call for votes. When the CFV is posted, instructions will be given on how to mail your votes to the Usenet Volunteer Votetakers (UVV). -- +------------------------------------------------------------------------- + Michael Silbergleid <[email protected]> New York, NY Television Broadcast Magazine [email protected] From [email protected] Mon Jul 24 18:08:41 1995 Path: uunet!in1.uu.net!bounce-back From: [email protected] (Michael Handler) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,rec.video,rec.video.desktop,rec.video.production Subject: CFV: rec.video.professional moderated Followup-To: poster Date: 19 Jul 1995 22:35:30 -0000 Organization: Usenet Volunteer Votetakers Lines: 146 Sender: [email protected] Approved: [email protected] Expires: 10 Aug 1995 00:00:00 GMT Message-ID: <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] NNTP-Posting-Host: rodan.uu.net Xref: uunet news.announce.newgroups:7177 news.groups:160224 rec.video:85491 rec.video.desktop:7646 rec.video.production:25338 FIRST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2) moderated group rec.video.professional Newsgroups line: rec.video.professional Technical & artistic issues in professional video (moderated). NO signifies a vote against the creation of the newsgroup. If you vote ABSTAIN, your vote will be registered and will be shown in the final results posting, but it will not affect the outcome of the vote. If you CANCEL your vote, all records of your vote will be purged from the active results file, and your name, address, and vote will not be listed in the final results posting. ABSTAIN and CANCEL are nearly the same thing -- the only difference is, with ABSTAIN, your name and address are still listed in the final listing. It's your responsibility to make sure your vote is registered correctly. IMPORTANT: If you give anyone copies of the CFV, the copies must be whole and unmodified. Distributing pre-filled in ballots or modified copies of this CFV is considered voting fraud. If this occurs on a large scale, or causes voting problems or irregularities, the vote may be canceled.
