After some deliberation with a small group of fellow posters, and some consultation with the newsgroup, we'd like to suggest a split for rec.arts.anime: o REC.ARTS.ANIME.INFO [Moderated] The following kinds of postings will be allowed: - FAQs (natch) - Lists (voice actor list, CD list, subbed/dubbed anime list, etc...) - Informational postings ("How to take care of your cels", etc...) - Summary reviews of magazines like Animedia, Animage, NewType, Advance Comics, etc. - Anime Reviews - Industry, con, and club announcements - Any significant anime-related news Any follow-ups to postings in rec.arts.anime.info will be sent to rec.arts.anime.misc (see below). Steve Pearl ([email protected]) has volunteered to be the first moderator of rec.arts.anime.info. o REC.ARTS.ANIME.MARKETPLACE [Unmoderated] Buying and selling of anime paraphernalia (laserdiscs, tapes, model kits, posters, CDs, etc). Selling of bootleg material on the net will be, as usual, *extremely* discouraged. o REC.ARTS.ANIME.DOJINSHI [Moderated] "Dojinshi" translates roughly to "same-character stories". In Japanese fandom, this word is slang for fanzines containing comics featuring popular characters. There are several yearly conventions where makers of dojinshi gather in one place to sell their wares to tens of thousands of atendees. Unlike American companies, Japanese companies are supportive of dojinshi, and even assist in the creations of such conventions. Rec.arts.anime.dojinshi will be a place for creators and fans to discuss dojinshi, and to post examples of dojinshi from fans all over the world, with the authors permitting (due to bandwidth limitations, only prose dojinshi will be allowed). Brad Bikowicz ([email protected]) has volunteered to be the first moderator of rec.arts.anime.dojinshi. o REC.ARTS.ANIME.MISC [Unmoderated] The new name for the existing rec.arts.anime newsgroup. rec.arts.anime.misc will be added, and rec.arts.anime will be rmgrouped. You can abstain voting from any specific newsgroups. - Include your real name and e-mail address in your vote. NO ANONYMOUS VOTES!! - Send your vote to [email protected], with a Subject: line of "VOTE" - If you wish to change your vote, mail your new vote with a subject line of CHANGED VOTE to [email protected] How NOT To Vote: - DO *NOT* POST YOUR VOTE TO THE NET! Stuff like "Yes, but only if..." or "No, but I would if..." is not acceptable. - Do not send global votes. "YES to all of them" is not acceptable. - Do not propose new groups. That time is past. - Do not send a simple list of votes. The following is *not* acceptable: 1) Yes /* NOTE: this is NOT an acceptable vote */ 2) No 3) Yes 4) No VOTES WHICH DO NOT CONFORM TO THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE COUNTED. Votes will not be acknowledged over e-mail. Rather, mass acknowledgements of votes received will be posted from time to time. These acknowledgements will *just* list addresses and names. They will not indicate how people voted. No indication as to how the vote is going will be posted or released in any way. Cherry: Any questions? Ataru: Yes. Why do we need so many rules?? All the people have voted. What happens now? Miyu: Several things: - For a newsgroup to pass, there must be 100 more "Yes" votes than "No" votes, and at least 2/3rds of all votes must be "Yes" votes. - After the voting period has ended, the votes will be tallied and the results will be posted to the news.announce.newgroups and all other appropriate newsgroups. - Along with the results, a list of everyone who voted along with the *way* each person voted will be posted to the net. - There will then be a 5 day waiting period during which the results can be inspected and verified. - A file containing everyone's original vote will be available upon request via e-mail. - After the waiting period, the moderator of news.announce.newgroups may send out control messages creating/deleting groups according to how the 4 separate votes go. This is the final CFV and the Final update of votes. A reminder that the voting period ends the 23rd of April, so there is just a little time left. PLEASE check and see if your name is below. This is all the votes I have as of 2:30pm PST on Mon. the 12th. If you haven't voted, please do. If you have, check your name. Thanks. CALL FOR VOTES RE-ORGANIZATION OF REC.ARTS.ANIME [The movie starts. The following subtitle appears on the screen:] PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE BEFORE YOU VOTE. VOTES CAST INCORRECTLY WILL NOT BE COUNTED! NEWSGROUP DESCRIPTIONS: ======================= [The main Neo-Jion fleet. Commander Char Aznable addresses the troops.] Char: Today is a great day for our cause! We have the opportunity to influence the course of history, and direct the future of rec.arts.anime as we see fit! We can let things run their present course, or we can create the following newsgroups: o REC.ARTS.ANIME.INFO [Moderated] The following kinds of postings will be allowed: - FAQs (natch) - Lists (voice actor list, CD list, subbed/dubbed anime list, etc...) - Informational postings ("How to take care of your cels", etc...) - Summary reviews of magazines like Animedia, Animage, NewType, Advance Comics, etc. - Anime Reviews - Industry, con, and club announcements - Any significant anime-related news ("Mamoru does DIRTY PAIR movie!") Any follow-ups to postings in rec.arts.anime.info will be sent to rec.arts.anime.misc (see below). Selling of bootleg material on the net will be, as usual, *extremely* discouraged. o REC.ARTS.ANIME.STORIES [Moderated] "Dojinshi" translates roughly to "same-character stories". In Japanese fandom, this word is slang for comic fanzines featuring popular characters. There are several yearly conventions where makers of dojinshi gather in one place to sell their wares to tens of thousands of atendees. Unlike American companies, Japanese companies are supportive of dojinshi, and even assist setting up such conventions. Rec.arts.anime.stories will be a place for creators and fans to discuss such fiction, and to post examples from fans all over the world, with the author's permission. Due to bandwidth limitations, no graphical (as in comic form) stories will be allowed, only prose. Brian Bikowicz ([email protected]) has volunteered to be the first moderator of rec.arts.anime.stories. o REC.ARTS.ANIME.MISC [Unmoderated] The new name for the existing rec.arts.anime newsgroup. rec.arts.anime.misc will be added, and rec.arts.anime will be rmgrouped. For those people who get rec.arts.anime through the ANIME-L mailing list, new mailing lists will be created for any new groups. Char: Everyone! I ask of you to vote! Whether you agree or disagree with the above proposal, let your voice be heard! For the dream of Jion Daikun, and for the glory of the Neo-Jion cause! VOTE! [The troops break down in spontaneous cheering...] VOTING BALLOT =========== [ABCB Cafe, in Orange Road. Madoka and Kyosuke are at a table.] Kyosuke: Madoka, I... Madoka: Where's Hikaru? She should be here by now. Hikaru: Hi everyone!! I got the ballot! Here, darling. Kyosuke: I don't know how should I vote. Madoka: I hate indecisive men... VOTING RULES ============ [A hallway in Tomobiki High. Students are looking at the rec.arts.anime voting ballot posted on the wall.] Ataru: I'll just send a message saying "I want them all!!" Voice: You can't do that... Ataru: Huh? Cherry?! What are *you* doing here? Cherry: Protecting you from making a mistake, even though I should know better. There are rules that must be followed if you want to vote: How To Vote: - Clip-and-save the above ballot. You can make your own ballot, as long as it has all the neccesary information, INCLUDING THE NAME OF THE NEWSGROUPS YOU'RE VOTING ON. - Vote "Y" for the newsgroups you agree with, and "N" for the newsgroups you disagree with. IT WILL NOT BE COUNTED. - DO *NOT* REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE! IT WILL NOT GO TO THE RIGHT PLACE. - Do not send conditional votes. Voting Period: - Voting will commence as soon as the moderator of news.announce.newgroups posts this Call For Vote to the network. - Voting will end at NOON CST on Friday, April 23 1993. - ANY VOTES RECEIVED AT THE VOTING-TALLYING SITE AFTER THIS POINT IN TIME WILL NOT BE COUNTED. (So vote early!!!) Multiple Votes/Ballot Stuffing: - Each person may only vote ONCE regardless of the number of internet addresses that they have. - Checks will be run to verify addresses. - Proxy votes and forwarded votes will not be accepted. [Bonks Cherry with a wooden mallet...] VOTING RESULTS ============== [A dark, silent warehouse. Himiko Se and Miyu walk among the crates packed with voting slips.] Himiko: It's over. Miyu: That's all there is. What happens after that, is up to you. [Miyu disappears into the darkness...] -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jeff Williamson [email protected] Michael J. Yup, this is the last you will probably have to hear about all this, so here are the results! First off I need to thank Enrique Conty. He not only wrote the CFV (which got quite a few really nice comments), but he also gave me enormous amounts of help and support with what I needed to do, and when I should do it. If not for him, I really would have been lost, and things would have gone really rough. Thanks. Now, onto the results: A total of 198 people voted in the poll.
