NAME: sci.systems CHARTER: (proposed) sci.systems provides a forum for the discussion of the theory and application of systems science. In the broadest sense, systems science is the study of the nature of systems. Such systems can be physical, chemical, biological, sociological, economic, etc. Systems science and system theory can be applied to systems of all types. Discussion might include, but is not limited to: - An overall discussion of the various aspects of the study of systems. - Discussion of the particular methods for analyzing systems. - Application of different methods to particular systems. STATUS: unmoderated Comments: While many existing newsgroups address particular aspects of systems science (such as sci.math, comp.theory.dynamic-sys, or comp.simulation) or discuss the application of systems techniques to particular fields (sci.econ, sci.bio, or sci.engr, for example), no existing newsgroup provides an appropriate place for people from different fields to discuss different approaches to the analysis and design of systems of all types. Sci.systems serves this purpose. Most respondants to the initial RFD agree that the group be called sci.systems. If at some point the readership of sci.systems decides volume or excessive noise in sci.systems warrant the formation of moderated or unmoderated sub-groups (sci.systems.gen-theory or sci.system.engr, or sci.systems.modelling, for example), appropriate RFD/CFV's might be issued. Given the initial positive response to the unofficial frist draft of the RFD for sci.systems, I would hope an initial Call for Votes could be issued in two to three weeks. If anyone familiar with the voting process would like to volunteer to handle the CFV, please let me know. Otherwise I'll issue the CFV and take votes here. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ken Sheppardson Email: [email protected] Dept of Engineering-Economic Systems on leave from Stanford University NASA-Langley Research Center From [email protected] Sat Apr 4 03:28:12 1992 Xref: rpi news.announce.newgroups:1922 news.groups:40898 comp.ai:9242 comp.infosystems:569 comp.theory:4061 sci.bio:5787 sci.chem:6426 sci.econ:7737 sci.edu:2101 sci.engr:2808 sci.environment:18450 sci.math:20759 sci.med:28253 sci.physics:23713 sci.psychology:6411 Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,comp.ai,comp.infosystems,comp.theory,sci.bio,sci.chem,sci.econ,sci.edu,sci.engr,sci.environment,sci.math,sci.med,sci.physics,sci.psychology Path: rpi!usc!cs.utexas.edu!uunet!bounce-back From: [email protected] (Ken Sheppardson) Subject: CFV: sci.systems Followup-To: poster Sender: [email protected] (David C Lawrence) Organization: DSG, Stanford University Date: Sat, 14 Mar 1992 07:23:22 GMT Approved: [email protected] Lines: 51 NAME: sci.systems STATUS: Unmoderated CHARTER: Sci.systems provides a forum for the discussion of the theory and application of systems science.
