CHARTER For broad discussion of microbiology, including organismic studies (ecology, biodiversity, bioremediation, classical genetics, and other types of applied microbiology) and systematics. This newsgroup serves also as a place where lay readers can ask biologists their questions about yeast, fungi, and bacteria, as well as health and environmental issues having to do with these and other microscopic organisms. This group complements the more technically oriented newsgroup bionet.microbiology. JUSTIFICATION Sci.bio.microbiology was originally discussed in sci.bio earlier this year, but was preempted by a proposal for bionet.microbiology. During the discussion of that newsgroup, however, there emerged a significant difference of opinion regarding the purpose of the newsgroup, and it seems probable that there is both sufficient interest and non-overlap to support two microbiology newsgroups. In addition, bionet.microbiology has a mailing list attached, but suffers from low propagation throughout Usenet (as do most of the bionet.* newsgroups): current complaints about the low propagation of bionet.microbiology suggest that the mailing list will gain many subscribers, and much traffic as well. Thus, it is to the benefit of everyone that there be a second newsgroup with high propagation to absorb some of the traffic that would otherwise clog the mailboxes of e-mail readers of bionet.microbiology. Please direct comments to news.groups. -- Una Smith [email protected] Department of Biology, Yale University, New Haven, CT 06520-8104 USA From [email protected] (RonDippold) Wed Oct 12 13:24:10 1994 Path: uunet!bounce-back From: [email protected] (Ron "Asbestos" Dippold) Newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups,news.groups,sci.bio,sci.bio.ecology,sci.bio.technology,bionet.general,bionet.microbiology Subject: CFV: sci.bio.microbiology Followup-To: poster Date: 12 Oct 1994 12:42:49 -0400 Organization: Usenet Volunteer Votetakers Lines: 50 Sender: [email protected] Approved: [email protected] Expires: 3 Nov 1994 00:00:00 GMT Message-ID: <[email protected]> References: <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] (Ron Dippold Voting Alias) NNTP-Posting-Host: rodan.uu.net Xref: uunet news.announce.newgroups:5771 news.groups:120318 sci.bio:22229 sci.bio.ecology:6705 sci.bio.technology:2605 bionet.general:11832 bionet.microbiology:512 FIRST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2) unmoderated group sci.bio.microbiology Newsgroups line: sci.bio.microbiology	Protists, fungi, algae, other microscopic organisms.
