Rationale: Choosing and applying to colleges is a daunting task. Financing your college choice is equally tough. There have been sporadic queries on misc.education and soc.college about college admissions, and although many college students and admissions officers have volunteered their time answering these students' questions, there exists no dedicated forum on USENET for this purpose. As the number of high school students with net access grows, these posts will no doubt increase. Soc.college.admissions will provide a means to consolidate this knowledge and so increase its profile and usefulness. Charter: Soc.college.admissions will be a forum for discussion of college admissions (both graduate and undergraduate), financial aid, and the advantages and disadvantages of specific colleges and universities. Input from admissions officers and current college students is especially encouraged. Soc.college.admissions will serve as a repository for college addresses (email and postal) deadline information, and tips to make the application process easier on both the applicant and the admissions office. FAQ: A FAQ list for soc.college.admissions will be created following the approval of this group. Its contents will be determined by the needs of the newsgroup's participants. Voting: If there are no significant revisions to this RFD, a Call for Votes will be issued shortly after the end of the 21-day discussion period. Follow-ups: All follow-ups to this RFD should be directed to or cross- posted to news.groups.
