R E Q U E S T  F O R  D I S C U S S I O N
=========================================

This is a Request For Discussion for the creation of a newsgroup for
the discussion of issues regarding Token-Ring networks.

GROUP NAME
comp.dcom.lans.token-ring

STATUS
unmoderated

CHARTER
comp.dcom.lans.token-ring (unmoderated) will be a newsgroup to discuss
Token-Ring networks. Discussion topics include :-
* Installation/Configuration
* Problem solving/Trouble shooting
* Bridges and Routers
* 3rd party suppliers (ie. Not IBM)

RATIONALE
Token-Ring has finally achieved wide acceptance as a readily available, stable
network platform. The availability of 3rd party adapters, using IBM's Tropic
chipset, at a relativly low price level, has meant that more and more sites
are now choosing Token-Ring. This is seen by the amount of Token-Ring
specific information now appearing in c.d.l.misc
This RFD has been cross-posted to various groups :-

  comp.dcom.lans.misc This is where the bulk of Token-Ring information lies.
  comp.protocols.ibm As they `invented' it. (No flames please.)
  comp.sys.novell As this is where I was told to ask Token-Ring
                        questions `As there are a few people there who know
                        a lot about Token-Ring'
Followups to news.groups please.

SCHEDULE
This RFD was issued March 8th and will last for 30 days. If this RFD is
approved, a CFV will be issued on April 7th, and the voting period will
end at 11:59 (AEST), April 30th.

This is a re-post of RFD: comp.dcom.lans.token-ring.

                 ** CLARIFICATION **
Some people have interpreted the RFD as saying that discussion
of IBM equipment should be excluded from this proposed group.
This interpretation is due to my poor choice of words only.
