Request for Discussion (RFD) on Soc.Culture.Somali
This message initiates a discussion period to consider
the creation of a soc.culture.somali newsgroup. Discussion will
take place in news. groups, and all follow-up posts should be
posted to that group. Anyone at all interested in this proposal
is encouraged to participate in the discussion. Initial suggestions
for the group name, status and charter are given below, though
subject to review and revision based on the discussion to follow.
KEEP IN MIND that this are only initial suggestions and it is subject
to change as soon as a further inputs and opinions are collected.
GROUP NAME
soc.culture.somali
STATUS
not moderated.
PURPOSE
The proposed soc.culture.somali newsgroup will provide a forum
for the discussion of all aspects of the Somali society-culture,
economic, political, and anything that has to do with the name
Somali.
RATIONALE
Given the current situation in Somalia, it's pivotal that a form for
discussion is created. It is a common desire amongst the Somalis and
those who have interest in Somalia to see the establishment of such a
newsgroup. This has been expressed by many on the
soc.culture.Africa in several occasions. Furthermore, there is also a
consent to spare others in that newsgroup the sometimes heated
arguments which we feel is neither relevant nor appropriate in that
newsgroup. Thus, a news group solely devoted to the Somalian issues
is greatly needed.
CHARTER
The proposed soc.culture.somali newsgroup will be to provide a
forum for the discussion of things Somali. Discussion will include (but
not be limited to) sharing of information about the future of Somali-
What is the solution to the current war, the prospect of establishing
law and order, economic rehabilitation of the country, regionalism,
ethnicity, religion, and etc.
SUMMARY
In summary, a newnews group called soc.culture.somali is being
proposed. It's focus will be on discussion of all items relating
to Somali culture-economic, political, and traditional.
DISCUSSION
Discussion regarding the creation of the newsgroup soc.culture.somali
should be posted to news.groups.
