We have added two new payment options at checkout: iDEAL for customers in the Netherlands, and SEPA bank transfers for customers anywhere in the EU, UK, and Switzerland. Both options let you pay directly from your bank account without needing a credit card or a PayPal account.
Why We Added These
A large share of our customer base is in Europe, and for years the feedback has been consistent: not everyone wants to use a credit card online, and not everyone wants a PayPal account. In the Netherlands, iDEAL is the default way people pay for things on the internet. Across the rest of Europe, SEPA bank transfers are the standard for recurring payments and larger purchases. We should have added these options a long time ago. We are glad they are live now.
iDEAL (Netherlands)
If you bank in the Netherlands, iDEAL lets you pay for your NewsDemon subscription directly through your own bank's online environment. At checkout, select iDEAL, pick your bank from the dropdown, and you will be redirected to your bank's login page to approve the payment. Supported banks include ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank, SNS, ASN Bank, Knab, Bunq, Triodos, Regiobank, Revolut, and N26.
Payments are instant. As soon as you confirm the transfer in your banking app, your NewsDemon account activates immediately. No waiting for bank confirmation, no delay.
SEPA Bank Transfers (EU, UK, Switzerland)
SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) lets you pay by direct bank transfer from any account in the 36 SEPA member countries. That covers every EU member state plus the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City.
At checkout, select SEPA Direct Debit, enter your IBAN, and authorize the mandate. Your subscription activates once the payment clears, which typically takes one to three business days depending on your bank. Once the mandate is set up, future renewals on subscription plans happen automatically, the same way card renewals do.
What Stays the Same
All of our existing payment methods are still available: credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), PayPal, and cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others). Nothing has been removed. You now just have more choices.
Pricing is identical across all payment methods. There is no surcharge for using iDEAL or SEPA, and there is no discount either. Whatever plan you pick, you pay the same amount regardless of how you pay.
Privacy Considerations
A lot of our customers care about keeping their payment details separate from their Usenet account. Bank transfers are a good middle ground. You are not giving us card numbers, and you are not tying your NewsDemon account to a third-party wallet like PayPal. The transaction happens directly between your bank and our payment processor, and NewsDemon never sees or stores your bank credentials.
For customers who want maximum privacy, cryptocurrency payments remain the most private option we offer. But for people who just want a clean, bank-level transaction without the credit card layer, iDEAL and SEPA are now available.
How to Use the New Options
- Go to newsdemon.com/usenet-access and pick a plan.
- At checkout, select iDEAL (if you bank in the Netherlands) or SEPA Direct Debit (for any other EU/UK/Swiss bank).
- For iDEAL: choose your bank and approve in your banking app. For SEPA: enter your IBAN and authorize the mandate.
- Your account activates immediately (iDEAL) or within 1-3 business days (SEPA).
If you run into any issues at checkout, our support team is available 24/7 via live chat. We have tested both flows extensively but if something does not work for your specific bank, we want to know about it right away.
