One of the most popular sources for definitions, Mirriam-Webster, has decided to include the word ‘Fanboy’ to the 11th Edition Collegiate Dictionary this year. Others that were considered, but eventually squashed were ‘noob’,’pr0n’ and the most popular in many newsgroups – ‘pwnd’.
Other inclusions this year included ‘unibrow’, ‘ringtone’, and ‘sandwich generation’.
Over the years, Mirriam-Webster has added many words into its dictionary over the years that have had a solid root in the Usenet community through Newsgroup discussions. Although many may not be proud, the Usenet community sees another nod of acknowledgement for its role in making ‘Fanboy’ as popular as it has become.
