Server Settings
Use these settings in any Usenet newsreader. Your username and password were emailed to you when you signed up. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for an email from NewsDemon.
Recommended Server (GeoDNS — auto-routes to closest region)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server Address | news.newsdemon.com |
| SSL/TLS Ports (recommended) | 563, 80, 81, 9119 |
| Non-SSL Ports | 119, 23, 3128, 7000, 8000, 8080, 9000 |
| SSL/TLS | Enabled (always recommended) |
| Connections | Up to 50 |
| Authentication | Required (your NewsDemon username & password) |
Regional Servers
The GeoDNS server above automatically routes you to the closest region. If you want to force a specific region, use these hostnames instead:
| Region | Hostname | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| US West Coast | uswest.newsdemon.com | Optimized for western US/Canada |
| Europe | eu.newsdemon.com | Amsterdam, Netherlands |
All ports listed above work on all regional servers. All plans include 50 SSL connections. We strongly recommend SSL on every connection — it encrypts your traffic so your ISP cannot inspect or throttle it.
Login & Password Recovery
Forgot your password?
Visit the member login page where you can reset your password.
Paid with cryptocurrency?
Crypto payments (Bitcoin, etc.) require manual processing. Your account will be set up and credentials emailed to you, but it can take a little longer than credit card or PayPal signups. If you haven't received your username and password within 3 hours of payment, please contact us via live chat or email so we can expedite it.
Account Management
Managing Your Account
Sign in at members.newsdemon.com to view your subscription status, update your password, check usage (for block accounts), and manage your plan.
Changing Your Plan
To upgrade or downgrade, sign in to the member dashboard and click "CHANGE PLAN" on the right side. Select the plan you want and how soon you'd like the change to take effect. Changes are processed within 24 hours.
Updating Your Credit Card
Sign in to the member dashboard and select "UPDATE PAYMENT INFO" from the Modify/Update menu. Enter your new card details and click Authorize and Save. A small authorization charge may appear on your statement — this is not a real charge and will be reversed immediately.
Cancelling Your Account
Sign in to the member dashboard and click "CANCEL/UNCANCEL ACCOUNT." Fill in the required information and submit. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. There are no cancellation fees.
PayPal users: After cancelling in our system, you must also cancel the recurring payment agreement in your PayPal account to stop future charges.
Free trial users: Cancel before your trial period ends to avoid being charged.
Refund Policy
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all subscription plans. If NewsDemon doesn't meet your expectations, contact support for a full refund. No questions asked. See our refund policy for details.
Block Accounts
Block accounts (100 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB) never expire. You buy a data allotment and use it at your own pace. Check your remaining balance in the member dashboard. Block accounts include the same speed, retention, and SSL connections as subscription plans.
Troubleshooting
If you just signed up: Allow up to 30 minutes for your account to activate. Try again after waiting.
If your account was already working: This error usually means an incorrect username/password, or your monthly quota has been reached (for metered plans). Double-check your credentials — your Usenet login is different from your member dashboard login. If you believe this is an error, contact support with your Member ID.
Increase your connection count. Most newsreaders default to 8–10 connections, but your plan includes 50. Set it to 50 and test again. (Some newsreaders may show brief "auth" errors in the log — this is normal when connections close and reopen.)
Try alternate ports. Some ISPs throttle traffic on standard ports (119, 563). Switch to an alternate port — try SSL port 80, 81, or 9119.
Try a different server region. If news.newsdemon.com isn't giving full speeds, try uswest.newsdemon.com or eu.newsdemon.com directly.
Use a wired connection. WiFi is the most common bottleneck in home networks. Ethernet eliminates that variable.
Hardware limitations: For gigabit+ connections or low-powered devices (Raspberry Pi, NAS), the bottleneck may be disk write speed, CPU capacity for SSL decryption, or Docker container network interfaces. Our speed optimization guide covers these in detail. Also see why Usenet speeds vary for a deeper dive.
If you're on an unlimited plan and getting an over-quota error, this is likely a system glitch. Contact support via live chat or email with your Member ID and we'll reset your account.
All NewsDemon plans include free posting. If you're seeing this error, contact support with your Member ID so we can enable posting on your account.
All plans include 50 connections. If you're getting errors about too many connections, some may be hanging open from a previous session. Reduce your connection count temporarily, wait 30 minutes (our servers auto-close hung connections every 30 minutes), then try again at 50.
On metered and block accounts, our system cannot currently distinguish between header downloads and article downloads. We add extra quota to every metered/block account to compensate. If you're a heavy header user and running short, contact support and we'll adjust your account.
If articles are missing or PAR2 repair fails, try connecting to a different server region. You can also check our PAR2 repair guide for troubleshooting steps.
Check our live server status page for current uptime and any known issues across all server regions.
