[Please note that followups are directed to news.groups]

There is an increasing amount of traffic in the newsgroup comp.windows.x.
It is becoming increasingly harder to filter information according to
one's interests. Many proposals have gone by before about splitting
comp.windows.x. This proposal does not address a generic splitting of
comp.windows.x into several groups, but does propose the creation of a
new group to handle questions and threads relating to the Xt toolkit,
also known as the Intrinsics.

Proposed name: comp.windows.x.intrinsics
Proposed status:	unmoderated

Commentary is directed to news.groups.

After the sufficient period of time, this RFD will be replaced with a
call for votes on the creation of the new group, provided no
significant objections are offered during the discussion period.

The call for discussion period has ended without significant objection.
This is the first formal CALL FOR VOTES for creation of the newsgroup:

	 comp.windows.x.intrinsics Unmoderated

The voting period will end on June 6th, 1992. This call for votes and a
mass vote acknowledgement will occur on May 18th and 25th.

To cast a YES vote for comp.windows.x.intrinsics:

Send a message with the word YES in the subject line (preferred)
or the body of the message to [email protected] (Rich Thomson)

To cast a NO vote for comp.windows.x.intrinsics:

Send a message with the word NO in the subject line (preferred)

Proposed Charter:

The new group will not be moderated.

This newsgroup will be for discussion of the Xt Intrinsics, often
referred to as the "X Toolkit". The Intrinsics is an object-
oriented system for creating user interface components in the X
Window System. This includes, but is not limited to:

    o	questions about the Intrinsics

o	questions about writing custom widgets

Currently there is a newsgroup for discussion of the Motif widget
set, a set of user-interface components built on top of the Xt
Intrinsics. However, there is no specific place for discussing
the Athena widget set, the first widget set developed on top of
Xt. It is expected that some questions will be of relevance to both
    comp.windows.x.intrinsics and comp.windows.x.motif.

The call for votes period has ended with a passing result for

	comp.windows.x.intrinsics	Unmoderated

There were 198 yes votes and 21 no votes out of a total of 219 votes.
This meets the Usenet requirements of at least 100 more yes votes than
no votes with at least 2/3 of the total vote being yes votes. One
vote was received after the official voting period ended and was
discounted. Where possible, I identified multiple votes from the same
person to eliminate duplicate votes.

Most of the "NO" votes expressed concern that the newsgroup be gated into a
mailing list, in a similar fashion to the xpert/comp.windows.x gateway.
However, the proposed charter of the group did not include such a
gateway and I personally don't have the time to devote to creating
such a gateway. Should someone volunteer, I'm sure many of those who
voted "NO" would be grateful.

Intrinsics. It is expected that some questions will be of
    relevance to both comp.windows.x.intrinsics and
    comp.windows.x.motif.
