The existing multimedia groups are more concerned with technical issues, i.e. sounds boards that work with the PC, etc. This proposed group would deal with more educational issues: who has created what for what piece of curriculum, where can one get training in this area, etc. I'd like to moderate this group. I teach multimedia on the university level (UMass Lowell) and have worked on several projects. I have also taught on the K-12 level and keep abreast of multimedia issues in that area. I am published in THE Journal and a frequent presentor at educational computing conferences. This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party. Voting questions should be directed to Ed Bailey <[email protected]>. For questions about the proposed group, please contact the proposer, Howard Kaplan <[email protected]>. CHARTER The proposed newsgroup, misc.multimedia.education, would deal with the interface of teaching and technology, including: ** who has created what multimedia program for what piece of curriculum; ** where can one get training in this area; and ** which pieces of multimedia technology seems to work in the classroom, and which do not. The larger arena of training (i.e. business) will be also addressed. COMMENTS from the proposer I'd like to moderate this group. Other co-moderators are welcome. I teach multimedia at the university level (UMass Lowell) and have worked on several projects. I have also taught on the K-12 level and keep abreast of multimedia issues in that area. I am published in THE Journal and a frequent presentor at educational technology conferences. I think this group should be accepted by the members because it will focus in on a teaching technology that present educators with breakthrough methodolgies for instructing and preparing students for the 21st century. STANDARD VOTING INFO (or HOW TO VOTE) You should send MAIL (posts to a group are invalid) to [email protected] (just replying by MAIL to this message should work). Your mail message should contain one and only one of the following statements: I vote YES on misc.education.multimedia I vote NO on misc.education.multimedia I vote ABSTAIN on misc.education.multimedia You may add a comment, but anything other than a definite statement involving the group name and "yes", "no", "for", or "against" on a single line may be rejected by the automatic vote counting program. An "abstain" vote has no effect, but your vote will be registered. If you later change your mind you may send in another vote. Only the last valid vote received will count. You may also vote "delete", which is similiar to "abstain", but you will not be listed in the final vote tally. You should receive an acknowledgement (via email) of your vote within one to three days. Additional CFVs will NOT include mass ACKs, only ACKs for undeliverable mail. Standard Guidelines for voting apply: One vote per person (regardless of how many accounts you have) and one vote per account (regardless of how many people use that account). Votes from system accounts, e.g. root, postmaster, et al., and votes from anonymous accounts will be rejected. 100 more YES votes than NO votes and 2/3 of all votes being YES are the requirements for group creation. Addresses and votes of all voters will be published in the final voting results list. -- Ed Bailey | Voice: (512) 471-4198 Fax: (512) 471-6715 Inst. for Fusion Studies | Internet: [email protected]{hagar,ziggy}.ph.utexas.edu, Univ. of Texas at Austin | [email protected], or [email protected] Austin TX 78712 | "No pithy quotes.
