CHARTER An unmoderated group for the discussion of the NNTP protocol (both its formal definition in RFC 977 and the de-facto standard extensions commonly available), future directions for NNTP, and protocol implementations. Of particular concern is interoperability with other Usenet software and protocols. As a result there is often much cross-posting with the news.software.b and news.software.readers newsgroups. BACKGROUND The group "news.software.nntp" is a group that exists within the "inet" distribution of Usenet. (Unlike all other original inet groups, there was no mailing list.) This proposal takes news.software.nntp out of the inet distribution and creates it in the main Usenet hierarchy. The group currently averages about 20 articles per day; about 80% of them have to do with INN, which I wrote. While this proposal could be considered an attempt to create my own "vanity press," that is certainly not my intent.
