Cross-Posting – Since Usenet newsgroups are divided by topic areas, posting a message to more than one newsgroup is sometimes necessary. This should only be practiced when the material is relevant and of interest to the readers of more than one Usenet newsgroup. The number one rule to follow regarding cross-pointing is that it should never be used indiscriminately. Avoid cross-posting to Usenet newsgroups that are branches of the same sub-hierarchy, that is don’t cross-post to adjacent Usenet newsgroups. Cross-Posting can be beneficial to users who wish to reach a larger usenet audience of a topic that spreads across multiple newsgroups. Because of this as well, it has alternatively led to abuse, therefore cross-posting in a Usenet newsgroup may be subjected to filters if crosses spam filters negatively.
