Port 563 with SSL enabled. If your ISP blocks 563, try 443 (the standard HTTPS port, almost never blocked). Avoid port 119 unless you have a specific reason. There's no benefit to an unencrypted connection.
Check your spam/junk folder. The email comes from NewsDemon within seconds of signup and contains your username and password. If you used a fake or mistyped email address, you won't receive it. Contact our support team and we'll sort it out.
Connections & Speed
50 simultaneous SSL connections on every plan. Unlimited, metered, and block accounts all get the full 50. Start with 20-30 and increase if you're not maxing your internet speed.
No. We do not rate-limit or throttle speeds on any plan. Your download speed depends on your internet connection and the number of connections you're using. Members on gigabit connections regularly max them out with 30-50 connections.
If you're getting slow speeds, try increasing your connection count, switching to SSL port 563, or connecting to a different server region. Sometimes ISPs throttle unencrypted Usenet traffic on port 119, which is another reason to always use SSL.
This usually means some connections are stuck open from a previous session. Stop all downloads, wait about 30 minutes (our servers reset hung connections every 30 minutes), and try again. If it persists, try reducing your connection count to 20 temporarily, then increase back to 50 once you're connected.
NewsDemon operates three server regions: US East (Virginia), US West (California), and EU (Netherlands). The default address news.newsdemon.com routes you automatically. You can also connect directly to a specific region if you want to test which is fastest for your location.
Retention & Content
5,695+ days of binary and text retention, growing by one day every day. That's over 15 years of stored articles. We also have exclusive articles recovered from magnetic tape archives going back over 20 years that no other provider has.
Yes. Both are 5,695+ days. Some providers advertise high text retention with shorter binary retention. We don't do that.
99%+ across the full retention window. Verified by TechRadar and NGR Blog. We run our own independent backbone, so we control ingestion, storage, and serving end-to-end.
Over 110,000 active newsgroups. If there's a group you need that we don't carry, let us know and we'll add it.
We operate our own independent backbone, which means our article inventory is different from the shared network that most providers resell. We also recovered exclusive articles from 20-year-old tape archives. We're independently owned by K&L Technologies, Inc., not a subsidiary of any larger corporation. Our independence page explains why that matters.
Billing & Accounts
Unlimited plans: Monthly ($10/mo), Quarterly ($8/mo), Annual ($5/mo). Unlimited downloads, no speed caps.
Metered plans: 50GB ($3/mo), 100GB ($4/mo), 200GB ($5/mo). Pay for what you use.
Block accounts: 100GB ($5), 500GB ($15), 1TB ($25). One-time purchase, never expires.
All plans include 50 SSL connections, full retention, free posting, and SlickVPN. See the full pricing page for all currencies and options.
No. Block accounts never expire. You buy a data allotment and use it at your own pace. If you get an error message saying your block has expired, contact support and we'll fix it.
Credit card, PayPal, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies (via BTCPay and BitPay). Paying with crypto gives you 25% more time on your account (account extension, not a price discount).
If you're on a metered plan and use your entire monthly data allotment before your billing date, our system can automatically rebill you for the next month so you don't lose access. This shifts your billing date forward to the day the autorecycle happens. If you don't want autorecycling, contact support and we'll disable it on your account.
We count every byte transferred from our servers to your client. This includes both article bodies and headers. For metered and block accounts, we add an extra 10%+ to your allotment to account for header overhead. If you feel your quota is being consumed faster than expected, contact support and we'll review your account.
You can check your current usage in the members area.
Yes. 30-day money-back guarantee on all plans. No hassle, no questions.
Privacy & Security
No. We do not track or log the newsgroups you visit or the articles you download. We are required to maintain a record of posts you make to Usenet (per our Confidentialité), but access to that data is restricted. We do not sell or share your information with anyone.
Yes, when you use SSL (which you should always enable). Connect on port 563 or 443 with SSL turned on in your newsreader. All connections are encrypted with 256-bit SSL. Our security page has the full details.
Yes. Every plan includes free access to SlickVPN, a no-logging VPN. You can use it alongside Usenet for extra privacy or independently for general browsing. VPN setup details are sent with your membership email.
No. We do not add your IP address to the NNTP-Posting-Host header or any other article header when you post. Some providers do. Our posting guide covers header privacy in detail.
Posting
Yes. Free posting is included on every plan. Most providers charge extra for posting or don't support it at all. Our posting guide covers the software and safety practices. You can also learn how to read and post in text discussion groups.
Account Policies
No. Accounts are for individual use only. Our system detects simultaneous connections from multiple IP addresses. The first time it's detected, we'll send a warning. The second time, the account may be terminated without a refund. This is in the Terms of Service.
We only shut down accounts when we suspect abuse: account sharing, proxying, commercial resale, or Terms of Service violations. It's rare, and we always issue a warning first (except in cases of clear commercial misuse). If you think your shutdown was a mistake, contact support and we'll review it.
You need a working email address to receive your membership credentials and purchase receipt. We do not sell, share, or spam your email. We only contact you about account-related issues.
